I think a good solution to that is giving a one or two page essay when getting exotics to the department regulating them proving you know what you are doing, quite easy to do.
And AR = Animal Rights = http://www.mofed.org/2001_Animal_Rights_Conference.htm _________________

| This is true about some of the people selling these animals. I knew a girl who along with her boyfriend bought a baby cougar. The person that sold it to them told them they could raise it and keep it just like a cat. They had absolutely no clue. She brought it to work with her a few times and it was so cute and we got to bottle feed it. Well, they lived in an apartment and by the time the cougar was 6 months old, it had torn their apartment completely up. Furniture, rugs, it was out of control and these owners didn't have any clue how to deal with this animal. They eventually gave it to Charlestowne Landing which is a small zoo/tourist spot in Charleston. So between the idiot owners that didn't do their homework and know what they were getting into, and an unscrupulous breeder that was not forthcoming about what owning this animal would entail, the animal was the one that ended up suffering for it.

Just the size alone should be enough to let you know it's not going to be the same. Yes there are idiots and bad people on both sides but think they are the minority.
They should have sued him. False representation/advertising, or something like that. You can't get away with selling a run down Toyota truck and claim it will drive the same as a corvette and get away with even if some idiot did believe you it so why let breeders or other animal sources do it with no repercussions? Sue him for all the property damage the price of the cougar, vet care, and emotional damage due to having to rehome a loved pet. Would teach him a lesson if not even put him out of business. _________________

what is AR?
i agree completely that most of the exotic animals are not dangerous if you know what your doing. but that is the problem. most people that see them in the pet store and think they are cute or cool looking or whatever else might draw them to like that animal have no clue how to take care of them. so they ask the pet store people. the pet store people or the most part have no clue either. its like the blind leading the blind!!! |
yes, so infuriating. There is a pet store in Willoughby Ohio called RMS aquaculture. they sell mostly fish, but come spring they have skunks, potbelly pigs, and even once a silver fox kit!!! First of all, you are not allowed to have any of these animals as pets anywhere close to this pet store legally, but pet stores are exempt. Make sense at all??? The fox had no lid, and a sign that said "I nip" Last i heard a women with peacocks bought her, who lived far away. I hope she has a good home. I am sure the pigs are at there second or third homes by now if not a rescue (rescuing pigs and rabbits makes no sense to me as they make great serval food, problem solved ). One time I tried to educate the people about skunk diet and they wouldnt listen, they were feeding cat food PUKE!

most of the bans exempt USDA licensees and pet stores need to be licensed if selling or displaying exotic mammals and law makers don't think to specifically ban pet stores from selling banned animals. _________________

that makes no sense!! if the animal is not allowed to be owned in that area why should the pet store be allowed to sell it in that area!! thats another thing that gets on my nerves. the people that go in to those pet stores probably figure that because the animal is being sold there they are legal to own in the area.
what would happen if someone bought an animal from a pet store and got caught with it because its illegal?? would the pet store be in trouble for selling or the innocent owner that just didn't research? _________________ please click my eggs to help them hatch:

The owner unless USDA isn't exempt or if the lawmakers remember to exempt USDA but not pet stores, meaning educators and rescues or the like could still have them but not the stores. It's just shotty law making. They just pass some quick ban bill to look good without everything thought through. _________________
